Founders Ben Scales and William Murrell both grew up in rural parts of New Zealand, gaining an appreciation for what nature has to offer. Both being interested in design and engineering, they found the fusion between engineering and nature an exciting prospect. While studying at the University of Canterbury, they set out on a mission to design better products from smarter materials.
KiwiFibre Innovations was born.
Our vision is to build a world where natural, renewable resources solve environmental problems and drive humanity forward.
We use natural fibres to design solutions that help global industries make a change in our environment and economy.
FROM IDEA TO INDUSTRY DISRUPTION
This was the year we discovered the limitless potential of harakeke as a material. We created a range of products to showcase what the material can do, including our TahiBoard. We brought this idea to the Summer Startup Programme run by the University of Canterbury Centre for Entrepreneurship. We developed the idea into a business and made key connections that got us off the ground.
THINGS GET SERIOUS
In 2021 we continued building supply chains, talking to key players in industry, and consolidated what we wanted to achieve. We continued research and development into our material, carrying out material design in collaboration with world-leading academics and future-focussed companies in industry.
